Access calendars/address books using Thunderbird with SOGO Plugins (only for Thunderbird 3.1 and 2.0)

There are three plugins available for Thunderbird application, developed by Inverse Inc. (the corporation that support SOGo).

Those plugins extends the functionality of Lightning in order to access calendars and address books:

1. Mozilla Lightning (Inverse Edition): this a customization of the last official release for Mozilla Thunderbird plugins Lightning, part of the Mozilla Calendar project;
2. SOGo Connector: add CardDAV support to access address books defined with SOGo or other external CardDAV services (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CardDAV);
3. SOGo Integrator: this extension implements a complete integration of Thunderbird with SOGo, managing also the configuration of both others SOGo plugins for Thunderbird (ONLY FOR EXPERT USERS);

Those plugins are compatible only with Thunderbird 2.0 and Thunderbird 3.1 (but a new version is announced with the Thunderbird 10 stable release on the 1Q 2012).

To install SOGo plugins for Thunderbird you can refer to the official public documentation: http://www.sogo.nu/files/docs/SOGo%20Mozilla%20Thunderbird%20Configuration.pdf.

To access calendars and use the SOGo Connector with Mozilla Lightning (Official or Inverse Edition).

You should download the SOGo Connector plugin from SOGo Website or from the service https://calendar.sissa.it/plugins/.

Add the extension to Thunderbird (menu Tools–>Add-ons).

To access a SOGo address book open the Address Book window, clicking the specific button in the main toolbar of Thunderbird.

In this window select the item Remote Address Book“ from submenu File –> New'', as you see in the following figure:

A windows is opened to define the address book properties:

Insert a name for the calendar (may be different from the name of the address book in SOGo) and an URL (see paragraph ”Accessing address books from an external client“). The remote calendar is inserted in Thunderbird address books list.
